Arizona, California and New York Criminal and Immigration Lawyer

Hiring an attorney for a criminal or immigration case is like trying to find your life partner. It is an important decision that will determine your future. Just like a life partner, you want an attorney who you can trust, communicate with, and relate to. But, beyond those qualities, you want a New York criminal lawyer who knows how to win your case or get you the best outcome. After all, you are facing the most powerful opponent: the government.

We Will Win Your Case

Quite simply, there is no substitute for experience. Lavy Law knows exactly how to protect your rights and preserve your freedom because we are a former prosecutor, court attorney, counselor, and trial attorney, who is bilingual and multicultural, personable, and reputable with experience in criminal defense, immigration, and crimmigration.

Lavy Law is bi-coastal, licensed in Arizona, California and New York. We serve clients with criminal cases anywhere in Arizona, California or New York. We serve immigration clients from anywhere in the world.

Former Prosecutor

The person who is charging you with a crime is called the the District Attorney (“DA”) or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”). The D.A. or ICE runs a well-oiled government machine that has the power to bring or dismiss charges against you. Fortunately, Lavy Law knows exactly how this machine works because we were once in charge of helping it run – as a former prosecutor in the Bay Area. With experience working as a prosecutor in five counties including: San Francisco, Contra Costa, Marin, Stanislaus and Santa Clara, we have insiders knowledge that we can use to win your case.

What does this mean for you? When you arrive at court, the prosecutor will immediately recognize the Lavy Lawyer who is representing you and holding your file. The prosecutor will listen carefully as your attorney relates your story and special circumstances in the best light possible. The prosecutor trusts your attorney’s judgment and value of the case, after all, the Lavy Lawyer was once on their team! Since your New York criminal attorney has a strong record of successful jury trials as a prosecutor, the prosecutor in court will be reluctant to bring your case to trial. As a result, the Lavy Lawyer tells you a good offer, or better yet, tells you that your case has just been dismissed!

Former Court Attorney

Although the District Attorney has the power to bring and dismiss charges, the Court also holds power once the case is charged. The Court refers to the judge or judges who make important decisions about your case. These decisions may include: whether to release you from custody, lower your bail, throw out evidence in your case, dismiss charges, and grant you probation.

As a former court attorney, Lavy Law knows how to communicate with the Court to reach the best possible outcome in your case. After all, Lavy Law used to work directly with the judges of San Mateo County, meeting regularly to develop, implement and present programs for the Court. One such program was funded and published by the Administrative Office of Courts.

Counselor

Whereas most firms consider themselves to be an “Attorney at Law”; Lavy Law considers our role to be “Attorney & Counselor at Law”. What is the difference? A counselor is like your coach, helping you from the sidelines to play the game; whereas an attorney is like your agent, playing the game on your behalf. In other words, a counselor empowers you and works in the spirit of “give a man a fish and he eats for a day- teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.”

When will you need a counselor at law in your case versus an attorney? If you have a criminal case, you may need a counselor at law to help you comply with any court orders during your case, enable you to feel confident to testify in front of the judge or jury, stay out of trouble, get back on your feet, and develop a safety plan. If you have an immigration case, you will need a counselor to empower you to tell the private details of your past to an immigration officer, prepare you for testimony before a judge in formal court proceedings, help you gather documents to support your story, and to connect you with community resources available to people like you.

Trial Attorney

There is a common misconception that all attorneys go to court and do jury trials. An attorney who has jury trial experience is actually the exception. This is because the majority of cases settle before trial to avoid any risk. In the criminal context, a case can settle through what is known as a plea bargain.

Lavy Law has excellent trial experience and will not convince their clients to accept a plea bargain even though the defendant’s rights were violated, he has a good case for trial, or he is innocent. Lavy Law enjoys going to trial because the firm knows how to creatively present the defendant’s story, attack the Prosecutor’s evidence, and build a relationship of trust with the Court and the jury.

Bilingual and Multicultural

Lavy Law chose to specialize in criminal law and immigration law because it enjoys helping people from different countries and cultures. The clients of Lavy Law come from almost every continent, predominantly- Asia, South America, and Europe.

Since the language of law is already a barrier for many clients, Lavy Law makes sure that you can communicate the sensitive details of your case in your native language. The firm is bilingual in Spanish – both written and spoken – and will make sure you have a translator if you speak any other language.

Personable

At most law firms, you will have to wait until you can finally meet with an attorney. Your first few visits might be with a paralegal or legal assistant. At Lavy Law, however, our New York criminal lawyer will personally handle your case from beginning to end. This means the attorney will be interviewing you, contacting you by phone, preparing you for court, and going to court with you. No other attorney will be taking over your case. In fact, when you call the phone number above, an attorney will personally answer the phone.

Reputable

Since hiring a lawyer is a very important decision, we encourage you to read the firm's Client Reviews to get a sense of how well we take care of our clients. If you would like to speak with a former client of the firm, feel free to email them from that list or we are happy to provide references.

"My experience with Lavy Law was extremely positive. After finding them through a Google search and reaching out to them, Kara Lavy responded soon after, assessed my case and she immediately came up with a collaborative strategy. Ms. Lavy was in close contact while preparing to present our case. The motions she filed on my behalf couldn't have been more thorough while leveraging her relationships with local DA and justice contacts to ensure a smooth process in the courtroom. All motions were granted in my favor, and I offer the highest recommendation to anyone looking for professional, responsive, dedicated and experienced attorney services." Javier M. (San Mateo, CA)
